Henry Darger – modern artistic genius

As an Art History major, I’m always excited to hear about something new. Sadly Henry Darger had to pass away for his work to be discovered, and since he passed in ‘73, this is hardly new to some people, but it is to me.
Henry Darger was a reclusive janitor and his work was discovered by a landlord after his death. He is now thought of as one of the most important self-taught modern artists. Sad that he could get no recognition in life. Maybe he was a little crazy…that seems to add to artistic ability sometimes. His work definitely can be a bit dark, which certainly appeals to my own nutty mind.
This book of his work looks amazing.
