Sharpies!

Monday, January 18th, 2010

I like this week’s GleePeek from Lani. Sharpies are just so incredibly fun, and let me say, I know for a fact that Lani can get pretty creative with this fantastic invention.

Sharpies - I know this is a bit weird but they have so many fabulous colors. Here is my favorite: fine point, in rain… – Lani

sunprint

Remember these from when you were little? I loved making artsy designs with foliage, but really, there are so many possibilities with this Sunprint Kit. I would be very happy to have one of these in my possession once again. What a great gift idea for children and adults alike.

birdhouseNow I have to admit that I am not exactly what you might call an avid bird watcher. I’m not even a not-so-avid bird watcher (sorry to the few hardcore ornithologists with whom I am acquainted). But it does so happen that on occasion I see birds.

If I were to see these said birds, I think it would be very nice for them to have such a lovely little house as this. My lack of direct interest in the observation of aviary life is certainly a bit curtailed by this way cool contemporary birdhouse.

What a perfect accessory for a tree! And feed those little birdies to make them happy too.

Henry Darger – modern artistic genius

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

The story behind this artist is so captivating that it adds to his beautiful work. As an Art History major, I’m always excited to hear about something new. Sadly Henry Darger had to pass away for his work to be discovered, and since he passed in ‘73, this is hardly new to some people, but it is to me.

Henry Darger was a reclusive janitor and his work was discovered by a landlord after his death. He is now thought of as one of the most important self-taught modern artists. Sad that he could get no recognition in life. Maybe he was a little crazy…that seems to add to artistic ability sometimes. His work definitely can be a bit dark, which certainly appeals to my own nutty mind.

This book of his work looks amazing.

Ring-a-ling

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

ringHip graffiti artwork, yes. Chunky ring, mmm yep. A unique avant garde piece, for sure!

I like switching up my ring varieties daily or multiple times daily depending upon what I am wearing. And this is just a downright cool ring that I would be happy to own. Like my own little mini artist canvas on my finger.

Get out there and find yourself some funky rings. This website has all kinds of one-of-a-kind jewelry. Style up!

John Hardy, how I love thee

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Yes, I am afraid to admit that there was a day when I couldn’t understand the two-toned juxtaposition in jewelry. But then John Hardy changed my life. I love John Hardy jewelry, I truly do.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail really get me. Like a lot of his gorgeous jewelry, the bracelet below has carefully handcrafted scene on the inside, in this particular case, Balinese temple dancers. It is like having a secret inside your luxuriously beautiful jewelry. Something for only you to see. Did I mention that I LOVE John Hardy?

This two-toned (yellow gold and silver) cuff bracelet is a beautiful example of the clean modern lines, often chunky in size, style of this high-end designer. Just make sure to make your purchases from a licensed retailer so you know you are getting the real goods!

lighting

Some day, when I have a real home, I want this lighting! So beautiful and a fit for most decor. Luckily, I have an eclectic style so it won’t be hard to integrate. Some day.

galaxy

Loving on ‘The Deep Blue Series’ by Tugboat Printshop. Crisp and colourful.

All are limited edition, quite affordable, and exciting to look at…like the imaginative bright blue underwater galaxy above.

Just look at those jellyfish! The yellow makes me happy. And the green kelp! Love it all.

calendar

A good-looking calendar is certainly something I search for at the end of each year. I know that it is the beginning of October and all, but I saw Miriam Bereson’s calendar for 2010 (2010!!! Can you believe it?) is ready for purchase. I’m sad I missed last year’s, but mark my word, that will not happen again!

I have been way into blue over the past year, and I like that this is an attractive piece of art that is also fully functioning in regards to keeping me on the ball with my social calendar (which will actually have things on it when I am back in the Pacific Northwest).

Now I just need a new Seattle apartment with a wall perfectly suited for this sweet calendar. Is that a viable search criteria? Why not?
