Prized Possession

more 009

I knew so little about watches before I started working at a high end jewelry store here in the Virgin Islands, and frankly, I didn’t care. Never wore one. But with education came a love—Breitling.

Rolex? HAH! A mass-produced mess. There are several wonderful luxury watch companies out there, and Breitling is certainly one of them.

One hint with watches…go big! That’s the style. My boyfriend surprised me with the above white-faced Colt Oceane from Breitling (this particular style no longer available) on my 30th birthday. After the feeling of illness over the extravagance subsided, it became one of my favorite possessions. Wear it with love!

The quality is unsurpassed, and any knowing eye will give you major street cred (seriously, if you still have Rolex on the brain, forget it…unless you have some gangsta rappers with grills to impress). The selections for men and women are plentiful and awesome. I could go on and on about the features of the watch here, but that could take far too long.

Definitely go to a trusted jeweler for purchase as they can get you fitted properly and get you a proper warranty.

*Also a hint about any fine watch…have it sent back to the manufacturer for any work needs done, even a battery change. This is VITAL to insure it is done correctly and stays within the warranty.

Scarf it up

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

scarfMust admit that I am loving a bit on this scarf/shawl. As any well-wisdomed grandmother may tell you…keep that neck covered to stay warm!

This particular scarf would go great on those brisk evenings that have started popping up across the country. And I know that there was already a nasty snow storm in Wyoming that wiped out electricity and took down trees. Toss on this fashionable little number and you are ready to take on whatever may come your way! (I personally look forward to getting to some cooler weather, just so I can get away with wearing these fun and necessary accessories.)

Loving the softness, loving the colours. Perfect with a coat or whatever lies beneath.

I am throwing in one last Renegade Craft Fair find. I know, I know. I’ve been on this tangent for weeks, but I think you will agree that there is some really fun stuff out there to be found and had.

Case in point…these lovely necklaces from Cookoorikoo. A creative, feminine necklace concept with a variety of sizes and colours for a variety of ladies’ tastes. The one above just looks like fall to me. And I love the splash of pink in the one below.

Ears of joy

Stunning earrings. And perfect for everything. These were another Renegade Craft Fair find, and I must admit that I am wishing I’d picked a pair up. At least I know this Nomadic Ant website exists so I can get them eventually!

Cinched wrist

I really limited myself when it came to purchases at this craft fair. Although I saw tons of things I coveted, I gave myself a budget and I stuck to it!

Here was one of my must-have snags:

belt bracelets

Had to have the belt bracelets from Erica Weiner Jewelry. Dainty, but somewhat rugged. I got them in both the gold and steel colours, but it looks like her website only sells the gold (I’m sure she’ll get you the other kind if you send her an email…she had a surplus). I find myself wearing them way too often, as I do with things I love.

My feeling is that we will be seeing quite a bit more of this style in the months/years to come.

Bark Bark

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Next up Renegade Crafter is Bettula Bark Jewelry. Love the concept – bark taken from dead and fallen tree in Michigan and made into very pliable, hip jewelry. The cuff look is huge, and has been huge. I love the way the wood grain is integral to the design. Really quite beautiful.

If this bag could talk

Friday, September 4th, 2009

The last item on my birthday wish list before signing off for the weekend is from my friend Deanna’s Etsy store, Nostalgia Handbags. She specializes in making the old new again with her vintage bags, and this fun little number is one of my faves.

convertible clutch

I am just totally picturing the previous owner and her stylish, socialite ways. Look at that sleek white, the convertible gold handles. I think you know what I mean. Alas, it is a vintage classic-a bag Audrey Hepburn could have carried around in her young iconic years, or maybe Kelly or Brenda or Donna on 9-0 back in the day. It transcends. And I want it. Check out Deanna’s prices…can’t be beat!

*Have a great long Labor Day weekend. Monday’s GleePeek will be from Deanna, so check back then.

For my edgier, badass self

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Linea Pelle is a wonder with leather. Handbags, belts, and a rocking line of cuff bracelets that are a bit industrial/punk. Now the chance of this working on my scrawny little arm is minimal, but I do LOVE. Putting a little badass accessory with a feminine dress or top sounds like divine inspiration to me. Plus, I guess the whole biker look is a top Fall 2009 trend. Tough-chic, here I come!

This kid needs a new lid

hatI am going to go ahead and get this hat for myself whether I get it for my birthday or not. I have been coveting it for far too long.

Hat obsession started several years back when I went to a dermatologist to see if I had any sun damage from this Caribbean living. She told me that people always forget to protect the top of their heads. With my fine and thin hair, I was easily convinced that hats were a necessity. Now I rarely leave the house during the day without one on.

This hat is made by Christys’ Crown Series. I love the other hat I have of the same brand. Very styley, high quality material, and unique yet classy design. That is why I know that this black one is a wardrobe necessity I will make my own.

Summer lovin’ fo’ sho’!

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

It’s not over yet! Don’t even think it. The days are still warm and long and there is plenty of time to celebrate the summer season.

And don’t forget the killer accessories. How hot are these Tom Ford ‘Miranda’ sunglasses? Incredibly Hot. Both colours—Shiny Rose Gold and Silver—are timeless and classy. The style is definitely worth the price tag. Just take care of them and you’ll be the height of style for years to come!

So put on some sexy hip-winding music (such as ‘She’s Royal’ by Tarrus Riley), make yourself a fresh mojito, and chill out near the water (or in your yard, or out your apartment window in front of a fan)…and enjoy the warm weather while you can!
