Ringaling

I love unique and pretty jewelry. This piece certainly fits the bill! It is from an Etsy shop, so check out her other selections of a similar style. Very cool.

Tapestry in Brass

This unique bracelet caught my eye.  The woven metal design is just stunning. It almost looks vintage, and it is certainly timeless. And always my favorite quality…a good price.

Design a Bag

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Truly a little fun for the person who just seems to already have it all…Parazul Bags. You can buy one that is already designed, or make your own! Choose style, colour, a scarf and a trinket. And let me just say that these had better be some pretty nice quality bags due to the price and all. They definitely have that preppy look to them, but I like! Below is the one I designed. Fun times here, people.

Better Boots

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Rainey had to let me know about her new boots, so alas, we get another GleePeek from my old pal to kick the week off.

BC Footwear Boots – I got these boots for my birthday. And I loooove them! Let me just say that I’ve been looking for a pair of versatile boots that would go with quite a few things, and not be too heavy, and would be a little different looking, and not have a heel, and have a defining look. The defining look I love, and I think fits me. It is sort of bohemian, and even hippie-ish. ( However, I can’t go without my daily shower, so I’m only hippie-ish in the strictly “poser” sense.  But I adore the look). Anyway, these boots are so great.  I’m one of those people that hate heels….I just can’t walk in them without looking like I’m…pretending.  So it’s just a sad look for me.  But these babies can be dressed up or relaxed, and though I’m always more partial to the latter, the former does, on occasion, come up. I guess you can get them in Black or Clay, but I have the Clay color. It’s a dirty grey…so besides grey,  it can pretty easily take on the colors of brown or black.. For those of us on a budget, (me), that’s a huge factor in any buy. But, on the other hand, they are made of the softest suede.  So I feel like a million bucks while wearing them.  All the while enjoying the comfort of something that feels relaxed, like a shoe, and not stiff, like the usual boot.  Anyway, just thought I’d tell you my new funsies! - Rainey

Putting the ‘Fun’ in Function

Friday, January 8th, 2010

From bottle openers to dog bowls to toothpick holders, Alessi takes a whimsical approach to the design of objects we use daily. The company grabs up famous designers to make these wonderful high-end and often kitschy pieces. Endless amusement, in my opinion. Kinda digging the Mr. and Mrs. Chin series, like the salt and pepper shaker here…

Snug as a Bug

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

A scarf is such a useful invention, and when it looks nice…well more power to you. This particular scarf is the exact same one I got my mother for Christmas. I looked and looked and looked and finally came upon the perfect one. It looks good with both of her coats, and it is seriously the most snuggly, big, warm thing you’ve ever come across. I told her I wanted to wrap it around my naked body, but she didn’t seem to want that to happen.

Gimme gimme

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I’ve had my eye on this little diddy for awhile. It is just a perfect little tray table to throw in various locations through the house…by the bathtub to hold reading material, candles and soaps; tucked into a corner with a chair, next to one’s bed. Not only is it affordable (yes, I would like MORE than 1), but it’s need simple design is timeless.

Pretty and vital

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Never did I think I would end up discussing the aesthetics of a carabiner, but here I am. When thinking about form and function a carabiner just jumped to the front of my mind. There are generally numerous styles and colours to chose from. Sleek, industrial, and simple…and can you believe it could save your life? Well, that may sound a bit extreme, but it is a crucial piece of equipment for climbers.

But for me? A non-climber who really cannot think of another purpose? Keychain! Talk about utilitarian and timeless. They are so affordable I cannot believe I don’t already own one or two or three for all the various clippy things for which one would need a carabiner.

GleePeek – Form vs Function

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Jacynth and her comfort shoes have inspired me to do another theme week on the age old dilemma of form versus function. You know the issue…shall I chose comfort or shall I chose style? Well, I am personally of the firm believe that they can live harmoniously together in this nutsy old world of ours.

Kicking us off is another great find from Jacynth (see her previously here, here and here)…

Privo Hopsy Flat – If you’re a teacher like me or in a profession that requires you to stand and walk around a lot, it’s hard to find shoes that are comfortable but still look cute.  I found that shoes by Privo are definitely a good bet.  Including these (which I own two pairs of. They have massaging beads on the bottom for goodness sake!). – Jacynth
