My Orla

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Lately, I have been trying to put myself in the place of those gleegarden readers who live in not-so-tropical climates. Let me tell you, not always easy! I got such a sunburn yesterday while on the car ferry between St. Thomas and St. John, and you really do not want me to even talk about the record-breaking amount of sweat pouring from my little body. Yikes. I could use some chillier fall weather myself. But alas, here I am…in front of two fans writing away in my 87 degree apartment.

I just couldn’t bring myself to dig into fall wear/accessories/whatnot. Instead, I looked for inspiration the one place that I knew I could count on…Orla Kiely products!

These are not necessarily the easiest things to track down. I purchased my perfect and awesome wallet a few years back on ebay. Let me tell you, it honestly still looks like it is brand new, even though it goes with me everywhere, changing bags when I do. It has the perfect change compartment inside, several credit card slots, not to mention several separated areas for business cards, notes, or whatnot, AND it zips shut to keep all your goods in. Plus, it is designed by Orla Kiely so it is just cute as a button with her clean, colourful prints.

Here is one similar to mine in style. A very darling traditional Orla number:

I found this new style below online and I am definitely digging the colours. It isn’t the zip shut kind like I have, but I think the fold-over top would do the trick perfectly. I want it!

Scarf it up

scarfMust admit that I am loving a bit on this scarf/shawl. As any well-wisdomed grandmother may tell you…keep that neck covered to stay warm!

This particular scarf would go great on those brisk evenings that have started popping up across the country. And I know that there was already a nasty snow storm in Wyoming that wiped out electricity and took down trees. Toss on this fashionable little number and you are ready to take on whatever may come your way! (I personally look forward to getting to some cooler weather, just so I can get away with wearing these fun and necessary accessories.)

Loving the softness, loving the colours. Perfect with a coat or whatever lies beneath.

I am throwing in one last Renegade Craft Fair find. I know, I know. I’ve been on this tangent for weeks, but I think you will agree that there is some really fun stuff out there to be found and had.

Case in point…these lovely necklaces from Cookoorikoo. A creative, feminine necklace concept with a variety of sizes and colours for a variety of ladies’ tastes. The one above just looks like fall to me. And I love the splash of pink in the one below.

calendar

A good-looking calendar is certainly something I search for at the end of each year. I know that it is the beginning of October and all, but I saw Miriam Bereson’s calendar for 2010 (2010!!! Can you believe it?) is ready for purchase. I’m sad I missed last year’s, but mark my word, that will not happen again!

I have been way into blue over the past year, and I like that this is an attractive piece of art that is also fully functioning in regards to keeping me on the ball with my social calendar (which will actually have things on it when I am back in the Pacific Northwest).

Now I just need a new Seattle apartment with a wall perfectly suited for this sweet calendar. Is that a viable search criteria? Why not?

GleePeek – Girls and their curls

BbDidi is getting used to her New York City lifestyle…hanging with friends and the occasional famous person, jet-setting across country frequently, and getting the new jobby-job up and kicking.

The summer heat and humidity in NYC can be treacherous, and I am saying this as a person who lives in a tropical climate. That sort of weather can definitely fudge one’s appearance. It is fortunate, in some ways, that those days are quickly waning as we head into fall.

During my post-college summer of fun in NYC, I remember stepping out of the shower and feeling like I couldn’t get dry. Tough times when your in a business suit heading for your Midtown job.

But Didi found the key to maintaining great curls (which she most certainly has)…

Bumble and bumble’s Curl Conscious Holding FoamIn this humid city, going curly is sort of forced upon you.  This keeps it at bay. – Didi

I personally love the Bumble and bumble products I’ve used. For any gal with curly hair, I would definitely recommend giving this a try to maximize the loveliness of your locks, no matter the climate.

satsuma

Smell invigoration….across the nation….a clean sensation.

But seriously now, I purchased Satsuma Shower Gel from The Body Shop years ago. It smells so amazing, it’ll make your eyes pop. And I am not kidding about this next part…the smell is so visceral you can TASTE it. I am not lying. It is the only scent with which I’ve ever had this happen, and I would never have thought it possible. And it tastes nice.

If you need a pick-me-up, or to be tossed oh-so-gently into your happy place, Satsuma Shower Gel is a MUST for you! Plus, it is from The Body Shop, which means it is made with the utmost integrity and social conscience.

Ears of joy

Stunning earrings. And perfect for everything. These were another Renegade Craft Fair find, and I must admit that I am wishing I’d picked a pair up. At least I know this Nomadic Ant website exists so I can get them eventually!
