Pop Icon meet Architecture

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Love her or not, Lady Gaga is certainly carving herself out a unique niche in the music world.

Her music is catchy, and her voice melodic (if you dare to argue, please check on YouTube for a number of solo singing performances that she records while plucking away with expertise at the piano). But her major schtick is most absolutely her outlandish outfits. Sheesh, the lady doesn’t even go to the grocery store without being painstakingly, and oddly, styled.

This is a fascinating article on Lady Gaga and her architectural moments. You must check it out. And seriously, the frog outfit toward the bottom??

GleePeek – Pangea Organics

body wash
This week’s GleePeek is awesome because it introduces me to a company that I did not even know about, Pangea Organics.  Thanks Deanna!*
All of their products are organic and ecocentric, plus they have the most amazing smells. And the packaging the products come in has seeds in it that can be planted! My faves are the Pyrenees Lavender with Cardamom Shower Gel & the Chilean Red Clover with Geranium & Grapefruit Body Lotion. - Deanna

Can’t wait to give them a go. Great prices too!

Fall in Paris, or wherever

eiffel tower

Really, truly Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world. It is beautiful, magical, romantic, ancient, and hip. It just warms my heart to even think about it.

While I’ve been to France, it has always been in the summer. I think it must be at its most exceptional in the early fall though, with the gorgeous colours and the crisp air. I can just picture walking hand-in-hand with my love along the Seine, afternoons at museums, lots of wine and amazing food at the outdoor cafes as they count the days until the indoors are the only option.

Some day. Some day. In the meantime, I will happily wrap up in these cozy Eiffel Tower Pique Pajamas. I love good comfy lounge wear to jump into whenever I am at home. It is kind of like my house uniform. Standard fare for these crisp fall days.

So get yourself a baguette or quiche, hot tea (or vino). Put on Amelie, or some other French film, and cozy up in some new pajamas. Sounds quite luxurious and exotic to me.

Friday Guy Day

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I’ve been thinking for awhile that it would be a good idea to post occasionally on guy products. After all, there is always some dad/boyfriend/brother/husband/whatever, who needs a gift, or maybe just a little help figuring it all out.

A little over a week ago I was seriously starting to think critically about recruiting some male friends to give me their picks, when I received an email from my good friend Tim suggesting I do some posts on this exact idea. We think alike…as I said, he’s a good friend. And a good friend with taste, if I do say so myself.

With that being said, here is the first item of the series that Tim refers to as “What guys like… or what they should like if they actually give a shit”:

jvJohn Varvatos Cologne: I don’t wear much cologne, but my little brother who loves cologne also uses this.  Ironically, we both stumbled upon it on our own but it shows great minds think alike, or that this is the best smelling men’s fragrance out there. – Tim

I will say that Tim smells delightful, and he has a fetching young wife to prove that he is certainly doing something right. Also, there are not many people out there who are such critical, analyzing shoppers (just going to the grocery store and dissecting food and prices can be a mission with my dear Timmy).

A wonderful gift for the discerning gentleman! Thanks Tim, and stay tuned next Friday for more Guy Gear.

galaxy

Loving on ‘The Deep Blue Series’ by Tugboat Printshop. Crisp and colourful.

All are limited edition, quite affordable, and exciting to look at…like the imaginative bright blue underwater galaxy above.

Just look at those jellyfish! The yellow makes me happy. And the green kelp! Love it all.

more 009

I knew so little about watches before I started working at a high end jewelry store here in the Virgin Islands, and frankly, I didn’t care. Never wore one. But with education came a love—Breitling.

Rolex? HAH! A mass-produced mess. There are several wonderful luxury watch companies out there, and Breitling is certainly one of them.

One hint with watches…go big! That’s the style. My boyfriend surprised me with the above white-faced Colt Oceane from Breitling (this particular style no longer available) on my 30th birthday. After the feeling of illness over the extravagance subsided, it became one of my favorite possessions. Wear it with love!

The quality is unsurpassed, and any knowing eye will give you major street cred (seriously, if you still have Rolex on the brain, forget it…unless you have some gangsta rappers with grills to impress). The selections for men and women are plentiful and awesome. I could go on and on about the features of the watch here, but that could take far too long.

Definitely go to a trusted jeweler for purchase as they can get you fitted properly and get you a proper warranty.

*Also a hint about any fine watch…have it sent back to the manufacturer for any work needs done, even a battery change. This is VITAL to insure it is done correctly and stays within the warranty.

Lighten Up

eye bright

Benefit’s Eye Bright…An absolute MUST in every female’s make-up collection. I fortunately latched on to this many years ago, and all my ladies use it religiously. It really wakes the face up.

Not only is it a key ingredient to get your face glowing in your morning make-up routine, but there is nothing like it to liven up your fading face for the rest of the day or evening.

A little spread in under each eye brow as well as whiskered off the outer corners of your eyes can make an amazing difference. I even use it on the darker skin on the inner corners of my eyes. If you don’t own this, GET ON IT.

GleePeek – Git yer greens

Monday, October 12th, 2009

This may be the perfect inspiration for a few veggie haters I know. And maybe also for those of us who just want to make sure we are getting all of our good green vitamins.

Jacynth always knows what she’s talking about! (see her previous GleePeek here).

orac

Orac Energy Greens25 servings of fruit and veggies in one tablespoon! It mixes great with water and despite the nasty green color, tastes just fine.  It really does boost energy and curbs sweet cravings. – Jacynth

Mad Women

Friday, October 9th, 2009

modHave you been watching Mad Men? Because I am just getting into the first season and it is making me absolutely horny for that late 50s fashion. The dresses those women get to wear! How fun to go to work and get to slip into those little numbers. Plus, it is just an all around fantastic show.

Modcloth does a number of super cute Mad Men-era dresses (many shorter and with less sleeves than those of that by-gone time). They even very appropriately name some of them after the characters on the show.

I’m glad I don’t live in those times of excessive smoking and pre-women’s lib, and I’m sure that I would not have loved those dresses so much if I was expected to wear them everywhere every day. But…I can certainly appreciate them now and throw one on for the occassional night out, or maybe just the grocery store. Loveliness!
