Art for All

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I love art and design of all sorts. I studied art history in college and have been pretty much obsessed with art in all of its varying forms throughout my life. Art is good…most can relate.

One thing that has always been big for me is decorating on a budget. The thing is, it is easy! You don’t have to compromise your taste, it just takes knowing where to look. Fortunately, there are a variety of internet ‘galleries’ that are a goldmine.

Here is one of my favorites, 20 x 200. You may have heard of it, a lot of people have. It is genius!  The idea here is that they post a few new original print designs for sale each week. Of each limited edition print, you can choose to spend $20, $200, or $2000 depending on the quality and size of the print. They also just added the $50 and $500 options.

Check out the website. It is astonishing and wonderful the diversity that they represent. And I love that it appeals to any and all pocket books.  Above you see some of my recent favorites. Scan for yourself and enjoy.

Smelly…in a good way

Tiffany Pure

I went years without paying much attention to my perfume. There are so many fragrances (lotions, shampoo, deodorant, and so on) in our everyday lives that I thought “Why add another?”

While scratching and clawing my way through the work world in high end jewelry sales, I came across Pure Tiffany. Such a lovely feminine scent described by Tiffany & Co. as being a combination of “fresh cut magnolia, exotic jasmine, water lily, may blossom and tuberose with sensual woods.” The job is now history, but the knowledge of tantalizing products such as Pure Tiffany lives on.

Of course, Tiffany as a brand has amazing reputation, and this scent is no exception. Use it for every day or special occasions. I have smelled several of their other perfume types, and I would say this one is the most youthful.

Now I DO use perfume, and I like it. Rave reviews all around.

*Perfume tips: Spray on before clothing and jewelry, and use with reserve. My personal opinion is that if someone can smell you further than a few feet away then you have too much on.

GleePeek – Panties officially NOT in a twist

Meet Ms. Lani. This lass has had a busy summer with her own Alaskan wedding, a multi-state road-tripping honeymoon, and finishing up her Doctorate Degree at UCSF. I am so privileged to have her as part of my life and am thrilled she is giving us the first of several looks at her favorite things that comprise her San Francisco lifestyle.

Lani pic

This week’s GleePeek from Lani is an absolute necessity:

Hanky Panky low-rise thong. My favorite undies ever… - Lani

I am so glad that Lani had this on her list of must-haves. We all know that VPL (Visible Panty Line for the unaware) is a big no-no. Thongs are a must, but they usually are not particularly comfortable. I know from experience (I own many pairs of Hanky Panky Low-Rise Thongs) that these are the absolute best. No complaints, but lots of love.

*Yes, that picture is Lani at her own wedding in costuming. It was awesome to attend such a fun affair.

Bag Lady

MK 2

It was at dinner several years back in Seattle when I saw my friend Cathy’s gorgeous Michael Kors handbag. It was a shocker that she could afford it (no one else could at the time). Turns out she gets the bag she wants, when she wants it through a membership at Bagborroworsteal.com.

For the person who wants to keep stylish without getting stuck with owning just one or two staple designer handbags that are used over and over, this is seriously the ticket! They have varying membership levels, and great bags choices at all levels. And just trade out when you are ready to move on.

They also rent out watches, jewelry and sunglasses, but I find the choices in those areas lacking. The bags are where it is at!

*Definitely consider getting the insurance they offer. If you’re anything like me and beat your bags to a shredded mess, this is a necessary addition.

Some colour, perhaps?

matte nails

Seriously. I have noticed that things are pretty monochromatic on this website so far. And I love colour! And colour is never more relevant than when chatting about nail polish.

I know that matte has been the rage lately, and I am really loving the looks of it. Here is a gorgeous shot (from July’s Marie Claire magazine) of OPI Matte Nail Lacquer in Russian Navy. Now that is hip! Very hip. And colourful!

*Note: Do not wear with base coat or top coat.

Summer lovin’ fo’ sho’!

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

It’s not over yet! Don’t even think it. The days are still warm and long and there is plenty of time to celebrate the summer season.

And don’t forget the killer accessories. How hot are these Tom Ford ‘Miranda’ sunglasses? Incredibly Hot. Both colours—Shiny Rose Gold and Silver—are timeless and classy. The style is definitely worth the price tag. Just take care of them and you’ll be the height of style for years to come!

So put on some sexy hip-winding music (such as ‘She’s Royal’ by Tarrus Riley), make yourself a fresh mojito, and chill out near the water (or in your yard, or out your apartment window in front of a fan)…and enjoy the warm weather while you can!

Our first GleePeek

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Today is our first GleePeek…a look into the lives of lovely ladies from around the globe who tell us about all the things that they can’t live without. It is so refreshing to hear other people’s takes on the products that shape their days (and nights). Hopefully we can all find inspiration and add a few fun new things in our lives.

Without further ado, let me introduce Miss Didi. My bi-coastal friend just landed a sweet job in New York City. She tip-toes through the tech world tulips just as readily as she sings sweet melodies in a band. One thing that is always consistent is that no matter where she goes or what she is doing, she looks damn good—special attention to the hair! Didi made me a great list of products that she hearts, and here is numero uno…

  • Amazing Grass – This is my wheatgrass that I drink every morning and swear by. So energetic man. -Didi

Wheatgrass is 100% organic and super good for you. Check out this website to purchase and for more details. The site says “Just one serving and you hit your daily quota of green vegetables.” Whoa! Sounds like a product that would be beneficial to all of our lives. Thanks Didi for the insight! Look for more of her must-haves in the future.

Lips addicted

juicy tube 1

Lancome has several great products that are part of my daily regimine, but the one that got it all started is Juicy Tubes lip gloss—my choice type being Spring Fling. Love the scent, love how it LASTS. Key word there…’LASTS’. I was addicted immediately, and that trip to the make-up counter really opened my eyes to other great Lancome options (to be discussed another day).

This is definitely my favorite lip gloss, and I’m really frustrated at the moment because mine has gone missing. Time to purchase another! The Coral Rush colour is looking rather tempting. May have to switch things up, or just get both. Click here to see the assortment.

P.S. As is key to note with most lipgloss, do not apply before eating food or you lips will look like a lint roller.
